Nin Ortiz

Priorat , Spain

General

Celler Nin-Ortiz takes its name from its founders. Ester Nin and Carlez Ortiz combined their expertise in the early 2000s and began making quality wines in the most ecological way possible. No machinery at all is used on the estate and the wines are produced through biodynamic viticulture. Ploughing, for instance, is done with mules, and the start of the harvest is decided by monitoring the pH of the grapes.

Location

The estate's main building lies within the village of Porrera and its vineyards at 400–650 metres of altitude. The soil is the typical Priorat slate.

The wines

Nin-Ortiz's wines are elegant and of high quality. The grapes are picked and sorted by hand, chilled to prevent oxidation and then fermented in foudres, 600-litre barrels or amphorae. The wines are matured mainly in neutral vessels so that they retain as fully as possible the aromas produced by their environment.
