Ferrer Bobet
Priorat , Spain
General
Ferrer Bobet is the project of two passionate wine enthusiasts, Sergi Ferrer-Salat and Raül Bobet. At the turn of the 2000s, a modern winery built entirely around the needs of winemaking was constructed over two years, and the first wine was released in 2008.
The estate produces around 50,000 bottles a year, most of which goes for export.
Location
Thanks to the proximity of the sea and the altitude, the vineyards are among the coolest in the region. All of the estate's vineyards lie in the same area, and the soil is mainly steeply sloping llicorella. The area's oldest vines, Carinyena and Garnatxa, are a solid 100 years old. In 2005 Ferrer Bobet planted more modern vines.
Ferrer Bobet has always looked after biodiversity, and only 15 hectares out of 70 are under cultivation.
The wines
Ferrer Bobet makes only high-quality wines. In the cellar, all unnecessary handling is avoided, and the estate uses the cuvée method of pressing familiar from the Champagne region. Each plot is vinified separately in 15–30 hectolitre oak vats.
Maturation takes place in French oak barrels, and the wines are always sold ready to drink. They are characterised by soft tannins and an extremely balanced flavour.
